Urvil Patel slams joint-fastest IPL fifty in 13 balls during CSK vs LSG

Chennai Super Kings’ destructive batter Urvil Patel played a breathtaking hand, smashing the joint-fastest half-century in Indian Premier League history, reaching the milestone in just 13 deliveries during the IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

Patel equalled Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record, bringing up his fifty off the 13th ball he faced. Jaiswal had set the benchmark in 2023 while playing for Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.

Arriving at No. 3 after the dismissal of CSK opener Sanju Samson in the fourth over, Patel took the run-scoring matters into his own hands and spared none of the LSG bowlers. He smoked eight sixes and struck two boundaries in his explosive 23-ball innings of 65 before being dismissed by Shahbaz Ahmed.

Patel departed in the 10th over, but by then he had already stitched an 81-run stand for the second wicket with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, off just 34 deliveries.

Hailing from Palanpur in Gujarat, a town known for its diamonds, Patel holds the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian, off just 28 deliveries in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which is also the second-fastest in the world. He also has a 41-ball century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Aggressive batting is all that Urvil knows.
