Pakistan U-19 thumped their Enland counterparts by 177 runs in the first one-day match between the two sides on Wednesday. The win came on the back of centuries by captain Farhan Yousuf and Usman Khan, as well as a four-wicket haul by Mohammad Sayyam.
Pakistan won toss and chose to bat first, posting a mammoth 332 for nine in their 50 overs. Opener Usman set the tone for the batting innings with his knock of 150 runs off 136 balls, during which he struck 15 fours and four sixes.
Farhan came in at number four, and stitched a 268-run stand with Usman for the third wicket, Pakistan’s highest at the U-19 level and the fifth-highest overall in the format.
The captain scored 115 off 133 balls, including 12 fours and a six. Usman brought up his century in 103 balls, before accelerating to the 150 mark, while Farhan reached his milestone off 109 deliveries. The pair took Pakistan to beyond 300, when Usman was dismissed in the 47th over.
In pursuit of 333, England were bundled out for 155 as left-arm pacer Mohammad Sayyam took four wickets, dismissing Harry Wallace and Ralphie Albert for the first two wickets to fall. He later dismissed Luke Hands, before taking the wicket of Charlie Taylor to wrap up proceedings.
Isaac Mohammed top-scored for England U-19 with 72 off 94 balls. Ahmed Hussain, Niqab Shafiq and Rizwanullah took two wickets each, putting a halt to England’s innings at 35.1 overs.
The match followed an incident at Portsmouth on Tuesday where the Pakistan U-19 side was mistaken for migrant asylum-seekers, causing a mass of protesters to gather around the team’s hotel.
The victory means Pakistan U-19 lead the four-match series 1-0, with the next one-day match to be held in Guildford on Saturday.
