Aviation Voice: Vipul Misra has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SriLankan Airlines, confirming Aviation Voice’s exclusive report published on 1 September 2026.
Misra, who currently serves as Head of Engineering at SriLankan Airlines, joined the national carrier in 2024 and brings extensive experience in aircraft engineering and senior aviation management.
Prior to joining SriLankan Airlines, Misra built his career across several leading Indian carriers, including Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara and IndiGo, where he held senior positions in engineering and management.
His appointment comes at a critical time for SriLankan Airlines as the national carrier prepares to enter a major restructuring phase. The Government has already initiated steps towards a strategic review and restructuring of SriLankan Airlines. In July, the Cabinet approved the appointment of a special committee headed by Presidential Senior Adviser on the Digital Economy Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya to oversee the strategic review and restructuring process.
Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodiththakku had previously stated that the restructuring of SriLankan Airlines was expected to commence within six months, following recommendations from the expert committee appointed by the Government.
Misra’s appointment places an aviation engineering professional at the helm of Sri Lanka’s national carrier as it enters a crucial period of restructuring and transformation.
