Taylor Sheridan’s best action thriller series is officially back in less than a week, and audiences can get one explosive final peek at the latest season ahead of its long-awaited return. Starring Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, the Paramount+ show follows an elite group of CIA operatives battling terrorism across the globe, as well as on home turf.
Paramount+ has unveiled the final trailer for Lioness Season 3, which is set to premiere on Aug. 2. The next season follows Joe McNamara (Saldaña), the head of the Lioness program, as she deploys her team in enemy territory, while dealing with her own personal issues at home. As the footage suggests, Lioness is leaning further into the protagonist’s own journey, while still offering up the explosive action audiences have come to expect. The cast, which also includes Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, is more jam-packed than ever before, introducing faces new and old.
Also back in action are Laysla De Oliveira and Genesis Rodriguez as Cruz Manuelos and Josie Carrillo, respectively. Taken under Joe’s wing, the Lionesses remain a focal point of the series, and it will be interesting to see how their dynamic evolves this time around amidst the chaos. The rest of the Lioness Season 3 ensemble cast includes Michael Kelly, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill, Hannah Love Lanier and Ian Bohen. For her, the action-packed series can only work if it strikes a “rare balance” with the emotional storyline, which she believes the Paramount+ series is able to do. Since debuting in 2023, Lioness has already shown significant improvement between seasons. The show first premiered on Paramount+ to mixed reviews from critics, who were not entirely convinced the show provided anything new to the table, boasting a 54% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Lioness completely flipped the table with Season 2, which was widely praised as a vast improvement, garnering a 90% Tomatometer score. It is safe to say that creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan has set high expectations for the show’s return this Sunday.
