We at Go For Gold record with regret the passing away of Shabeer Asgerally, a hard hitting batsman who made a name in domestic cricket who represented Moors SC and Bloomfield C&AC Cricket Club which he went on to captain with distinction.
Asgerally passed away yesterday and his funeral was held on the same day at Kuppiyawatta burial grounds.
Asgerally was a national poolist in the 1970s, and it is unfortunate he did not get the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka given his immense batting talent.
He stamped his mark as a free-flowing opening batsman during his time who decorated domestic cricket.
A significant feature was that he opened the batting with former Sri Lanka cricket captain Bandula Warnapura for Bloomfield.
After retiring, Asgerally served as a member of the Sri Lanka team selection committee,
