‘Heartbroken’ Springsteen eulogizes Suki Lahav, who played with the E Street Band half a century ago ‘May she rest with the angels’

Bruce Springsteen pays tribute to Tzruya “Suki” Lahav, the young Israeli musician who played violin in the E Street Band at 38 gigs from late 1974 to early 1975. Lahav was credited for her playing on the “Born to Run” album’s closing track “Jungeland,” and sang backing vocals uncredited on the song “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” from Springsteen’s previous album.

Lahav, who returned to Israel and built a resonant career as a lyricist, author and poet, died on Thursday at the age of 74.

“Here on E Street, we’re heartbroken over the passing of Suki Lahav,” Springsteen posts on social media. “Her angelic voice shone on 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) and her beautiful violin brought great drama to the Jungleland intro. She also blessed our stage with her beauty and grace in our early touring days.”

“She was a wonderful friend,” he adds, “may she rest with the angels.”
