The experienced Ellie Black held off the challenge of her teenage team-mate Lia-Monica Fontaine and Australia’s Breanna Scott to regain her Women’s Artistic Gymnastics All-Around title on Sunday.
The 30-year-old Black made her Commonwealth Games debut at Glasgow 2014 and won the All-Around title at Gold Coast 2018.
The four-time Olympian has had to deal with persistent injury issues during her career, including recent ankle problems.
The final competitor of a high-class final, Black overhauled Scott with a score of 12.750 on the Floor to finish on 53.050 for her fourth Commonwealth gold and an eighth medal overall.
Scott took silver with 52.900 to add to her Team gold, while the 16-year-old Fontaine, who like Black claimed Team silver on Saturday, secured bronze on 52.800.
“It’s pretty amazing, and 12 years ago I probably wouldn’t have imagined that I’d be here right now,” Black said.
“You can keep going, you can still get better and enjoy what you do.
“This is my second All-Around in two days, and I haven’t done any for two years, so I was just taking it one step at a time.
“Me and Lia (Fontaine) were feeling good, and we said, ‘Let’s show up, and try and be fierce and show what we can do’.
“We had to adapt a little bit because our routines weren’t perfect, but we kept fighting, and we kept our cool. We were just really enjoying the atmosphere and being out there together.
