Manchester United host Ipswich Town in their first home game of the 2026/27 season. Match-going fans will notice some new features as they return to Old Trafford.
After a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Hull City on the opening weekend of the season, Manchester United have a chance to brush themselves off by securing three points against fellow newly promoted side Ipswich Town.
Away from the results, it has been a frosty few months for United in terms of fan relations, with thousands of bans and suspensions impacting season ticket holders over the summer.
Still, United will be keen to show off their new stadium features at Old Trafford against Ipswich Town.
New pitch at Old Trafford
The pitch at Old Trafford was completely resurfaced over the summer, which explains why United didn’t play any pre-season matches in Manchester.
It was the first time in 14 years that the previous surface was removed, down to its foundations. It was then built under the guidance of groundsman Tony Sinclair and his team.
The aim of this is to improve player welfare and drainage, with the new hybrid surface consisting of 96% natural grass reinforced by 4% artificial fibres.
