In the First ODI Match, Sri Lanka batted first and they posted a total of 303 for 7 in 50 overs. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis played really well. They negotiated tough bowling spells and dominated the loose deliveries on offer. Nissanka made 79 off 103 balls while Mendis scored 72 runs off 62 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes. Charith Asalanka and Janith Liyanage also made brilliant contributions of 45 and 44 runs respectively as Sri Lanka managed to reach a tall total of 303 in 50 overs of play.
During the chase, West Indies lost John Campbell quite early into the innings. Justin Greaves and Keacy Carty then started carting the bowlers to all parts, especially Justin Greaves. He scored 45 off 38 balls and was dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana with a brilliant ball. Shai Hope played a nice hand and scored 56 runs but he got dismissed at a very wrong time for his team. The lower order batters couldn’t do much damage. Dushmantha Chameera ripped through the lower order, picked up 4 wickets and helped bowl West Indies out for 262, and Sri Lanka won the game by a big margin of 41 runs.
