Sri Lanka discard Dananjaya stars for Colts

Sri Lanka discard and right arm spinner Akila Dananjaya’s five wicket haul paved the way for Colts Cricket Club to coast to an innings and 31 runs win over Chilaw Marians at P. Sara Oval yesterday to get off to a winning start in the Major Club Tier ‘A’ three-day tournament.

The final day’s play had Colts in reply to Chilaw Marians’ score of 232 resuming from their overnight score of 329 for 8 going on to make 341 runs.

Chilaw Marians batting the second time and needing to erase a deficit of 109 runs lost their way in the early stages of the innings as the bowling trio of Uditha Madushan Sanoj Dharshika and Dananjaya sent them reeling to 63 for 7 before Dananjaya cleaned off the tail-end batting to bundle them out for just 78 runs.

Dananjaya in the process ended with a match bag of eight wickets.

Unbeaten knocks from Priyamal Perera and Dulash Udayanga helped Police SC to record a comfortable eight wicket win over Panadura SC in the match played at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona.

Police SC chasing 258 raced to the target with ease to help them begin their campaign on a winning note.

In the other matches CCC along with Tamil Union and Ace Capital CC recorded first innings win against Nugegoda S&WC, Badureliya SC and Kurunegala YCC while the match between Moors SC and BRC ended in a no-decision.
