It was a big day for Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals in Turin on Thursday, as he not only qualified for the semifinals of the year-end championships, but he also clinched the year-end No. 1 ranking.
But there was one more thing that may have gotten lost in the mix.
His 6-4, 6-1 win over Lorenzo Musetti on Thursday was his milestone 70th win of the year. He’s now an incredible 70-8 this season.
And no other man will even come close to that win tally.

Sinner and Zverev will go for their 56th wins of the year on Friday, but none of De Minaur, Sinner or Zverev can leave Turin with more than 58 wins. The German is the only one of the three who can add more, as he’s the only one scheduled to play the Davis Cup Finals next week.
Alcaraz is also scheduled to play the Davis Cup Finals next week.
For some historical context, winning 70 or more matches in a year is rare—especially in recent years. Alcaraz is just the second man in the last nine years to achieve the feat, after Sinner, who did it last year. Before that, you have to go all the way back to Andy Murray in 2016.
And at 22, Alcaraz is also the youngest man to win 70 or more matches in a year since Novak Djokovic in 2009. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was a slightly younger 22 when he did it that year.
