Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Prashant Veer was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14.2 crore at the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. The 20-year-old allrounder, who started with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, saw his price tag increase exponentially with CSK bidding heavily for him.
Veer hails from Amethi but moved to play competitive cricket in Saharanpur. His father is working as ‘Shiksha Mitra’ where he receives a monthly salary of 12,000/- rupees. Shikhsa Mitra are basically teachers working on contract basis in the state. His Mother is a housewife. He has played all junior age group cricket for UP.
Veer had given trials with CSK recently and was acquired by them on Tuesday. He had also given trials with the Mumbai Indians, recently. Born on November 24, 2005, he made his T20 debut against Tamil Nadu in Dehradun in 2023. He has played nine T20 matches for his state so far.
Veer played twin tournaments for UP, flying between Mumbai and Kolkata to play in the Under-23 tournament as well as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy between November 25 and December 1.
In SMAT, Veer made 112 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 169.19. He also took nine wickets with his left-arm spin in seven matches at an economy rate of 6.76.
“The intensity in T20 matches is high. The state team has high-class players like Rinku Singh. All of them supported me a lot. They urged me to run less on the field. They made me field in a safer part of the ground, “ Veer had told The Indian Express.
“Our support staff from both teams, our physios, trainers, they supported us a lot, as did the UPCA. Generally, we get economy tickets, but this time we got business class tickets, and we could sleep and recover while travelling,” Veer adds.
Veer’s purchase could mean that he could be a like-for-like replacement for Ravindra Jadeja, who was traded to Rajasthan Royals for Sanju Samson by the five-time champions at the time of retentions.Veer was CSK’s first buy at the mini auction on Tuesday.
