There have been some significant coaching changes on both the ATP and WTA Tour in recent months.
Perhaps none more surprising than the collaboration of Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, with the former rivals teaming up for three tournaments so far this year.
They has found some success in this time, but Djokovic faced disappointment in the Miami Open final after losing in straight sets to Jakub Mensik.
Another new eye-catching coaching dynamic has also come about on the ATP Tour, with Andrey Rublev hiring Marat Safin to help mentor him.
While there are numerous new coaching partnerships just getting started, others are reaching their conclusion.
Jasmine Paolini splits with coach Renzo Furlan after 10 years together
Last year saw Paolini breakthrough on the WTA Tour, reaching major singles finals at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, having previously never surpassed the second round of a Grand Slam tournament.
This was under the guidance of long-term coach Renzo Furlan, who had been working with Paolini since 2015 and became her full-time coach in 2020.
As a result of his efforts Furlan was awarded WTA ‘Coach of the Year’ in 2024, but their partnership has now come to an end.
In a lengthy statement on Instagram, Paolini paid tribute to Furlan and wished him well for the future.
“After 10 amazing years together, I want to say a huge thank you to Renzo Furlan for everything he’s done for me,” said Paolini.
“We’ve been on an incredible journey, shared unforgettable moments, including an amazing 2024 with the finals at Wimbledon and Roland Garros, and winning Olympic gold in Paris. And even in 2025, we’ve started strong.
“Renzo has been such an important part of my growth, both as a player and as a person. Everything I’ve learned from him will stay with me and continue to guide me in this new chapter, he’ll always be an important person in my life.
“I’m truly grateful for the time, energy, and sacrifices he’s made for me, often far from home and his family. I have so much respect and appreciation for him. For his professionalism, his passion, and the values he’s passed on to me over all these years.
“Renzo, I’m really thankful for everything. Wishing you all the best for what’s next!”
What is next for Jasmine Paolini?
Despite a slower start to the 2025 season, Paolini achieved her best result at the Miami Open by reaching the semi-finals.
It is currently unclear what is next for the world number six in terms of her next coach, but what is known is where Paolini plans to play in the coming weeks.
With big points to defend after Paolini reached the Roland Garros final last year, she will want to prepare the best she can during the lead-up clay court events.
First she will play at the stacked WTA 500 tournament in Stuttgart, before competing at 1000 level tournaments in Madrid and then in-front of her home Italian crowd in Rome.
Paolini has a total of 1,538 ranking points to defend during the clay court season, which amounts to 32% of her ranking points total.
