“Surprise, surprise!” Carlos Alcaraz debuts platinum blond hair after US Open win

Carlos Alcaraz has made good on his promise of a bold new look after his US Open triumph.

The Spaniard, who reclaimed the No. 1 ranking with his victory over Jannik Sinner in the final, revealed a dramatic platinum blond buzzcut this week.

His hair saga started in New York, when his older brother Alvaro accidentally botched a trim before the tournament. The only fix was to shave it all off—leaving Alcaraz with an uneven buzzcut that drew plenty of fan chatter and a few memorable reactions, including a hilarious one from Frances Tiafoe.

But Alcaraz brushed it off and breezed through the draw without dropping a set on his way to the final. The 22-year-old, who usually celebrates his Grand Slam wins by getting a new tattoo inked, announced that there would be a different celebration in store this year.

“Even better,” Alcaraz told press with a grin, when asked if he planned to keep the buzzcut after winning the US Open. “Even better. You will see. You will see. Surprise, surprise!”

On Tuesday, his personal barber Victor Martinez unveiled the new look on Instagram, captioning a photo: “Back to No. 1 again and a new look. Carlos we’re crazy.”

Alcaraz also posted a photo dump documenting the journey—from Alvaro’s slip-up with the clippers, to a blond wig test-run, to the final foiled-up shot before the reveal. The carousel also featured glimpses of his whirlwind New York celebration, including a round of golf with Sergio Garcia and a night out with Adrien Brody and J Balvin.
