Indian wicketkeeper-batter and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant is making headlines even before IPL 2025 begins. His recent act has reminded fans of legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.
During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Gavaskar criticized Pant on air for playing a reckless shot in the fourth Test against Australia. His words— “stupid, stupid, and stupid”— became viral on social media. Now, Pant has taken his revenge in a unique way.
Pant Recreates Gavaskar’s Viral Rant
Pant recently shared a video on his Instagram story in which he recreated Gavaskar’s famous outburst. However, it was all in good fun. He was shooting an advertisement for the travel company Goibibo, which used Gavaskar’s famous line to promote its brand.
The clip quickly spread across social media, with fans enjoying Pant’s humorous take on the incident.
How Gavaskar Blasted Pant on-Air
The original moment happened during the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Pant attempted a risky scoop shot off Scott Boland’s full delivery. The ball took a top edge and was caught by Nathan Lyon at deep third man. He got out at a crucial stage, and India eventually lost the match.
Gavaskar, who was commentating, was furious. He strongly criticized Pant for playing such a shot when the team needed him to stay at the crease.
His angry reaction was caught live on camera. He said, “Stupid, stupid, stupid! That was a terrible shot! There were two fielders in place, yet you still attempted it. You just gave away your wicket. You need to read the situation better. That’s not your natural game; it was a poor decision that badly let your team down.”
Pant Gears Up for IPL 2025 with LSG
Pant is now focused on leading LSG in IPL 2025, which starts on March 22. His team will play their first match against his former franchise, Delhi Capitals, on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
LSG bought Pant for a record-breaking ₹27 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.
Pant also played in India’s victorious T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squads. Now, he is ready for a fresh start with LSG in IPL 2025.
