During half term, a group of cricketers from King’s Sixth Form travelled to Sri Lanka for the senior cricket tour.
The ten-day tour involved plenty of cricket, as well as an insight into the rich culture of the country.
Across the six matches, the 17 strong squad played against some top schools, academies and district sides, providing an excellent opportunity to test their skills in challenging conditions. The players had to adapt to facing quality spinners, in spin-friendly conditions, whilst also battling the unfamiliar heat and humidity.
Out of the six matches, the boys managed four victories and a tie, and will have certainly improved as cricketers as a result of this wonderful opportunity.
Off the field, the tour allowed everyone to sample the rich culture of Sri Lanka. The team visited iconic sites such as the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy and the historic Fort and International stadium in Galle.
A visit to the Tsunami Museum was a poignant and humbling experience for all as we learnt about the devastation from a host with first-hand experience. The group also visited the Elephant Orphanage and Turtle hatchery, where everyone was given the opportunity to release a baby turtle into the sea.
The King’s cricket tour tour was a resounding success, with the warm hospitality of the Sri Lankan people and excellent cuisine making this a truly unforgettable experience for all.
The boys returned home not only as better cricketers but with a deeper understanding of this cricket loving country.
We now look forward with excitement to the girls’ cricket tour to Dubai later this year.
