Put into bat, the Irish batters struggled against the quality of pace and swing and a muddle in the middle in coming to terms with Dushan Hemantha, the Sri Lankan leg spinner.
Ireland lost 2 wickets upfront, but Stephen Doheny kept the home fires alight when he built a partnership with Morgan Topping, stitching 56 runs, however, he gave it away with Tharindu Rathnayaka getting a breakthrough with Ireland on 60 for 3 wickets.
Christopher de Fratus is having a good tour so far for the Irish with his bat as the 4th wicket partnership between Morgan Topping and de Fratus looked very promising, but sadly, for the Irish, Morgan Topping became Tharindu Ratnayaka’s second victim dismissed for 45 runs with Ireland rebreathing trouble again on 124 for 4 wickets.
Jordan Nails, the seamer for Ireland, who is no mug with the bat, joined Christopher de Fratus, and this pair coming under tremendous pressure from the Sri Lankan spinners led by Dushan Hemantha, got the score to 142 but the 5th wicket fell as Jordan Nails departed.
We all remember Ross Adair, a very good player of spin who together with Christopher de Fratus, had a mind set to bat till the 50 overs as the pair stitched a 43 run partnership for the 6th wicket.
Ross Adair made 27, but credit to De Fratus who remained unbeaten on 67 as the Irish were bowled out for 192 in 46 overs.
Madushanka took 4 for 44 whilst Dushan Hemantha with his mystery spell of 9 overs conceded just 24 runs with 3 wickets to his credit proving he is a difficult wrist spinner.
Sri Lanka reached the target in 27.1 overs. The opening stand of 107 runs between Lasith Crosspulle 53 and Lahiru Udara 47 practically sealed the game for Sri Lanka. Skipper Sadeera Samarawickrema remained unbeaten on 50, hence, an early finish and a one-sided game in favour of Sri Lanka being the end result.
