‘South Africa have found a bonafide star in a week of SA20’: Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik has retired from the Indian cricket and is not in contention for the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. It opened the doors for him to play in foreign leagues and he became the first to join South Africa’s SA20.

Nicknamed DK, he rolled back the years for Paarl Royals and took a stunning one-handed catch against MI Cape Town on Wednesday.

Karthik’s moment of brilliance came in the fifth over of the MICT innings when he plucked a one-handed catch to dismiss Azmatullah Omarzai off the bowling of Dayyaan Galiem.

Initially, DK appeared to be moving to the left but had to quickly recalculate his movement to deal with the outside edge. Even at 39 years old, Karthik showed quick reflexes to pull off the catch.

He later spoke to the commentators on the catch, teammates Kwena Maphaka, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and their start to the tournament.

Paarl Royals have won two out of three matches so far into the season and are third in the six-team competition. The top-four progress to the playoffs.
