A mainstream TV that was known from its early days to have blazed a trail of highlighting wrong in calling a spade a spade, has apparently lost that shine that once made it the most appealing television station in the country.
Over the years, that this premier tv station which had been a synonymous name to households, has tripped up in losing that public faith by certain misfits having taken over the running of this once pristine station is an indictment of those who now administer it.
Gone are the days when transparency in reaching out to the general public on important day to day matters was the way forward by these tv frontliners.
Today, we find that certain interested parties with agendas have turned the once famous TV station from the clean it once glowed in the eyes of the general public to a ghost station that has lost its pristine clout of fair reporting of events. Such misfits have succeeded in only tearing up and undoing its good work it was reputed for. That other tv stations that came on long after have risen to rendering Sirasa to second hand stuff as people have begun to move away for it by such a terrible loss of faith. It only goes to show how unpopular the once people’s darling has mowed itself into the dust, thanks to a new shoot of self agenda bound so called media men.
It is a sad sight that today we see men with cheap agendas rule the roost at the place who have brought down and tarnished the station’s reputation in a snake like poisonous act of gunning for those whom they dislike.
I am referring to the station’s overtures aimed at tainting the good name of people who administer the game of cricket in the country by these petty minded so called television men have made it the gunning down platform of Sri Lanka Cricket apparently seeking to become overnight mass media idols in the eyes of the public at any cost.
I must categorically say that such jokers who will never succeed in their evil doings and the man who set up the station who is no no more, must be turning in his grave that the golden glow that glowed so loftily during his time has been torn down by such never do wells who by their actions are an utter disgrace to the electronic media they profess of a clean suit tribe. On the contrary, they are a total apology of what a media institution should be.
These misfits have taken advantage of the Sri Lanka Cricket team’s failure to make it to the semi finals of the T20 World Cup to fling mud at the administrators. This type of knee jerk aimless criticism gunning for individuals is cheap work and must be condemned by all sensible people where Sirasa TV is using the team’s failure to go through as a yardstick to yell for the blood of the administrators.
TODAY’S PLAYERS IN A LAP OF LUXURY
This they have been doing by being utterly blind to the naked fact that the incumbent President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Shammi Silva and his executive committee has provided today’s national cricketers every possible high tech modern sophisticated facilities from training apparatus to specialised coaching experts both foreign and local. These contemporary players in fact are blessed in a lap of luxury with perks and remunerations, the luxury of which players of a bygone generation such as Bandula Warnaoura, Sri Lanka’s first test captain never enjoyed.
THE PAST WHEN CRICKETERS TRAVELLED BY BUS
Those were the early days when national players travelled by bus for cricket practices and matches who sweated it to putting their country on the world map.
Those who administer the game cannot play in the middle. It is up to the players to make the most of the modern facilities before them and perform to revive a bygone golden era.
As long as they linger, they are bound to strip this tv station naked of the satanic of dancing devils at work.
It is pertinent to recall what Tony Opatha, the famous fast bowler once comment on seeing the running failures of players today when he said, “During our days there were no luxuries like players enjoy today. We played the game the hard way by sweat, blood and tears travelling by bus most of the time.”
Aa for today’s players I must say it is high time they became more responsible minded in their cricket and put country before self.
Aa for media misfits, the type should be given short shrift by their employers if they are serious about serving the nation at large.
