Parliament passes Ravi K’s motion

Parliament this afternoon (07) passed a private member’s motion moved by NDF’s Ravi Karunanayake for the abolition of the pension scheme for MPs, lankadeepa.lk reported.

Speaking during the motion’s debate, Karunanayake said he intended by it to restore the public trust on the MPs breached by a certain party with its claim of pensions being traitorous to society.

Since parliament represents the aspirations of the public, what is needed is to fulfil their needs, he added.

Winding up the debate, prime minister Harini Amarasuriya said the NPP welcomed the motion, although some in the opposition spoke irrelevancies without understanding its importance.

The NPP fully supports it, she adde.
