It has been reported that Pakistan players will not be given 5 star accommodations after the PCB lost 85 million dollars, a loss incurred after rain delays in Rawalpindi and Lahore during the champions trophy.
This report by the Indian Telegraph also states that Pakistan was able to play only one game in their home conditions.
The PCB had spent around 59 million dollars on renovation of the three venues, namely Karachi International Stadium, Rawalpindi, and the Gadaffi Stadium.
The report laments the added expenditure was for expenses in hosting the visiting teams and the lack of sponsorship as Pakistan was knocked out in the league stage.
The Telegraph also stated that the funds allocated by the ICC were reasonable, but the PCB had lived far beyond their means, anticipating good income, but now face the reality that the loss is a huge dent on the PCB.
They hosted a global tournament after 30 years, and it could be due to over enthusiasm on their part given the opportunity by not cutting the cloth according to the size.
Couch critics are quick to criticism of expenditure and waste of money by administrative boards, not realising the challenges the cricket boards face in hosting tournaments in terms of finances needed for bilateral and global tournaments.
We hope Pakistan will recover from this massive loss. I am sure they will recover sooner rather than later because they are an important cog in the wheel in international cricket.
