Nugegoda S & WC secure lone win; Wanuja stars all-round, Kavishka bags 10-fer

Six matches in the second week of the SLC Major Club 3-Day League 2025/26 concluded today (14th December), with Nugegoda Sports & Welfare Club registering the only outright result of the round. The remaining five encounters ended in draws but produced several notable individual performances across venues.

Nugegoda Sports & Welfare Club secured a convincing victory over Chilaw Marians Cricket Club, led by an impressive all-round display from 43-year-old veteran Tillakaratne Sampath. Sampath made valuable contributions with the bat, scoring an aggregate of 93 runs across the two innings, and complemented his effort with the ball by claiming a match haul of five wickets to guide his side to victory.

Despite the absence of outright results in the other fixtures, there were several outstanding batting performances. Nishan Madushka produced the most eye-catching effort, scoring a superb 183 off 340 deliveries with 13 boundaries for Colombo Cricket Club in their match against Bloomfield Cricket & Athletic Club.

Heshan Dhanushka of Burgher Recreation Club, Wanuja Sahan of Ace Capital Cricket Club, Sachitha Jayatilake of Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club and Kavin Bandara of Nondescripts Cricket Club also reached three figures, adding further weight to the strong batting displays during the round.

The bowlers too made their presence felt in the drawn matches. Kavishka Anjula was the standout performer with the ball, picking up a match bag of 10 wickets for Colts Cricket Club, including five-wicket hauls in both innings against Police Sports Club.

Wanuja Sahan also impressed with a match haul of nine wickets for Ace Capital Cricket Club, while Tharindu Rathnayake of Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club and Chamikara Edirisinghe of Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club claimed six wickets apiece. Shiran Fernando of Moors Sports Club also featured prominently among the wicket-takers with a five-wicket haul.
