Sanjay Bangar said that Australia won’t have a chance of winning the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 if Indian batters manage to put a big first innings total at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He mentioned that the top-order batters will have to be among runs to achieve the objective.
The five-match series between the two teams is levelled at 1-1 after the three Tests. The Boxing Day Test will start on December 26 in Melbourne and the final game will be contested from January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Bangar explained what India need to do in the upcoming match.
We need to score big runs in the first innings and the top-order batters will have to be in form. The first innings performance plays an important role in the overseas Test,” he said.

If you have done all the hard work in the middle, all you have to do is to relax a bit and score runs in the first innings. If we do that, no one from the Australian team would be able to touch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” he added.
India have won the last four editions of the BGT. They will retain the trophy if they manage to win the Melbourne Test.
