Shai Hope added another century to his impressive CV in the second ODI against England, his 17th in the format. Here is the full list of those with the most ODI centuries for West Indies.
With West Indies chasing a series-sealing win against England in Antigua, Hope hit 117 off 127 balls to drive his side to an imposing 328-6, hitting eight fours and four sixes.
Despite West Indies’ struggles in 50-over cricket, failing to qualify for the 2023 World Cup, Hope has remained one of the most prolific batters in the world right now. In the past six years, he leads the world for ODI centuries and runs, while only India’s Shubman Gill and Pakistan’s Babar Azam average more than his 54.34 in that time, with a cut-off of 2,000 runs.
His form has seen him climb up some notable all-time list. West Indies were the dominant side in ODI cricket’s early years, but Hope has now equalled Desmond Haynes’ century tally in the format, with the opener one of the format’s first masters. Brian Lara, among West Indies’ greatest ever batters across formats, is just two hundreds ahead, while Chris Gayle is some way further ahead with 25 tons.
