While economic inequality continues to grow in Bangladesh, the wealth of the richest people is still high as compared to the common people in the country.
Bangladesh is facing economic and political challenges, and is also home to a growing class of billionaires. Among them, Musa Bin Shamsher stands out as the wealthiest, with a staggering net worth of $12 billion. Alongside him are other prominent figures like Salman F Rahman and Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who highlight the nation’s rising economic prominence despite ongoing turbulence.
Musa Bin Shamsher: The ‘Ambani’ of Bangladesh
Musa Bin Shamsher, often called Prince Musa, is not only Bangladesh’s richest individual but also one of its most controversial. He is the founder of DATCO Group, a company involved in international arms trading and power brokerage. His wealth is estimated at $12 billion (approximately Rs 99,600 crore), making him 40,000 times richer than former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whose assets are valued at around Rs 2.48 crore, as per reports.
Musa Bin Shamsher vs. Mukesh Ambani
Although Musa Bin Shamsher dominates Bangladesh’s wealth rankings, his fortune is less if compared to Indian richest businessman Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries. As of November, Forbes’ real-time billionaires list places Mukesh Ambani’s net worth at $101.1 billion. Ambani’s diverse empire spans telecommunications, retail, petrochemicals, and sports, far surpassing Musa Bin Shamsher’s estimated wealth.
Whereas India’s another richest businessman Gautam Adani’s wealth is 63.7 billion according to Forbes real time wealthiest list. Musa Bin Shamsher is still not in a comparison with India’s richest businessmen like Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani.
