Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced that the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2025 will not be held this year as originally planned.
The decision comes as part of the country’s broader preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which Sri Lanka will co-host with India in February–March next year.
SLC said the move followed careful consideration of the need to focus fully on upgrading infrastructure and ensuring all venues meet International Cricket Council (ICC) standards for hosting a major global event.
According to the ICC’s guidelines, all host venues for the 20-team tournament must be in perfect condition to handle the scale and demands of the World Cup.
As a result, Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to shift the LPL 2025 to a more suitable time window, allowing resources and attention to be directed toward preparing and improving the country’s cricket facilities.
The ongoing renovation program includes major upgrades to spectator stands, player facilities, training areas, broadcast infrastructure, media centers, and other essential amenities at key international venues.
