Rune and Draper made history by reaching the final in the Californian desert, but it was the latter who dominated from the first ball.
This backed up his semi-final performance, where Draper beat Alcaraz, who was the two-time defending champion at the time.
Despite both players losing to Draper, Rune has suggested that Alcaraz did something better than he did in the final.
Rune beat Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells semi-finals, but when speaking in his post-final press conference declared that his match with Draper was completely different.
The Dane also revealed his hope to return to the same player that beat Novak Djokovic in the Paris Masters final in 2022, drawing inspiration from Carlos Alcaraz’s approach against Draper.
“For sure against Medvedev was completely different match, but I think what I thought straightaway after the match today was do you remember how I played in Paris 2022? I told myself that. And I answered to myself, yes, and that’s how I want to play,” explained Rune.
“That was way more committed to my tennis. You know, I think when I was stressed there, my reaction was to step more in and come more to the net and be even more aggressive. Now my reaction was, okay, I’m stressed, I’m going to fall three meters behind the baseline.
“You know, a player like Jack who is full of confidence, just beat Carlos yesterday, you cannot give him this time to play, and he’s going to make you move side to side and going to hit winners.
