The world number one travelled to London as one of the pre-tournament favorites, but set foot onto Centre Court for the final as a slight underdog against two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.
It seemed as though Alcaraz was well-positioned to win his third Wimbledon title in a row when he won the first set of the final 6-4, but Sinner was not to be denied.
Fighting back, Sinner defeated Alcaraz in four sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, to win Wimbledon for the first time, taking his major tally to four.
Speaking to the media after one of the biggest wins of his career, Sinner said something ‘absurd’ according to one former Grand Slam semifinalist.
