Faruque Ahmed Asked To Step Down; Ex-Captain To Take Over As BCB President

In a significant development, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), current president Faruque Ahmed has confirmed that he has been asked by the national government to step down from his role, just over nine months after assuming office.

The development marks a significant turn in BCB’s leadership, with former Bangladesh captain Aminul Islam Bulbul expected to replace him.

Faruque, who succeeded Nazmul Hasan as BCB president on August 21 last year, revealed that he was summoned on Wednesday (May 28) by Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, the Youth and Sports Affairs Adviser.

Aminul Islam Bulbul Set To Take Over As New BCB President

During the meeting, he was informed that the government no longer wished for him to continue at the helm.

While Faruque has yet to officially step down, according to reports by Cricbuzz the government has already initiated the process to install his successor. According to sources, former national skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul has been approached by the Sports Ministry to take over the BCB presidency and has responded positively.

Bulbul, who is currently employed by the ICC as a development officer, is reportedly seeking a three-month notice period to transition into the new role.

Bulbul arrived in Dhaka earlier this week and has reportedly held discussions with top government officials about the prospective leadership change at the BCB.
