Oscar Piastri hit the Wall of Champions at high speed to bring out a red flag in final practice, potentially damaging the suspension on his McLaren.

Everyone got away with it yesterday exiting Montreal’s infamous final chicane, but not so far today after several dramatic Wall of Champions incidents in final practice.

George Russell has been fined €200 for speeding in the pit lane twice during final practice in Montreal.

Russell went 0.1kph over the 80kph speed limit and 0.2kph over on a separate occasion resulting in two €100 fines.

Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell on Sky Sports F1:

“I’m happy for Fernando to wander into any garage. He knows lots of people up and down the pit lane.

“And I’m also happy with the fact that he’s contracted to us next year, and hopefully will stay with us long term as an ambassador.

“It’s great working with Fernando. It’s always good to have a competitive person that pushes, just like Nico used to at Mercedes, and pushes the team on and galvanises the team.”

“This is so exciting. Qualifying is going to be thrilling. Lando is on form.

“This is a driver’s track and Lando doesn’t necessarily have the best car but he’s driving brilliantly.

“Leclerc is right there but he made mistakes, so Ferrari are there. Lewis messed up his last sector. It’s wide open.”
