Elena Rybakina and Jelena Ostapenko will face off in what promises to be one of the matches of the third round at Roland-Garros.
The Kazakhstani 12th seed is on a six-match winning streak after lifting the title in Strasbourg last week and looked imperious in her 6-3 6-3 success over Iva Jovic in the second round.
Former Roland-Garros champion Ostapenko has twice had to come from a set down to progress but is a huge threat on this surface as her title run in Stuttgart demonstrated recently.
This will be their sixth meeting with Rybakina having won the last three to lead the head-to-head 3-2.
Both players have easy power with Rybakina’s more reliable serve perhaps countered by the Latvian’s better movement.
If Ostapenko fires she can hit right through Rybakina but she must keep the unforced errors in check against a player who will be tough to break.
