Dhananjaya de Silva and Pavan Rathnayake hit big centuries in Dambulla’s 341/4 vs. Colombo; Kandy 332 vs Jaffna 201

Dhananjaya de Silva struck 134 before retiring hurt vs Colombo in recording back to back centuries.

Dambulla captain Dhananjaya de Silva struck 134 off 186 balls inclusive of 12 fours and a six in scoring back to back centuries, while Pavan Rathnayake was well on song striking an unbeaten 151 hitting 20 fours as their side ran up 341 for 4 wickets with Dhannjaya later having to retire by an injury in reply to Colombo’s first innings 300 on the second day of the Sri Lanka Cricket National Super League Tournament match at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

The Dhananjaya de Silva-Pavan Rathnayake fourth wicket pair which came together with Dambulla on a shaky 35 for 3 wickets, took the Colombo bowlers to the cleaners in putting their side in a strong position in leading by 41 runs with 7 wickets intact at stumps.

Dhananjaya displayed great form in the wake of his century last week against Galle though his side lost that game in the face of a suprb 6-wicket feat by Dunith Wellalage.

Meanwhile, Kandy scored 332 in reply to Jaffna’s 201 to lead by 131 runs guided by a superb 97 by Janishka Perera off 137 balls hitting 12 boundaries at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium. Other run getters were skipper Sahan Arachchige 45 off 104 with 4 boundaries and a six and 1 over the top, Chamindu Wickramasinghe 45, Shiran Fernando 38, Kamil Mishara 27 and Sohan de Livera 25.

Kandy’s Thatrindu Rathnayake had a 5-wicket haul for 99, Asanka Manoj 3 for 64 and Janith Liyanage 2 for 27.

Jaffna were 31 for 1 in the second innings.
