Dasun Shanaka will lead Sri Lanka in the upcoming Tri Nation T20 Tournament also featuring host country Pakistan and Zimbabwe starting on November 20 in Rawalpindi following the injury related return to Sri Lanka of regular captain Charith Asalanka, according to a media release from Sri Lanka Cricket dated November 17.
Incidentally, the 34-year old Shanaka makes a conspicuous return to lead Sri Lanka as an injury replacement captain singled out as the man for the job following his axing few years ago in the wake of a drop in form with the bat as well as Sri Lanka’s performances in the latter part of his career in the job.
The SLC communique further mentioned that also returning home nursing an injury is fast bowler Asitha Fernando.
While announcing that Asslanka snd Fernando had been withdrawn as a precautionary decision to ensure they receive proper care and sufficient time to recover ahead of future assignments, SLC stated thatj Pavan Rathnayake had been added as a replacement.
