Carlos Alcaraz vs. Hamad Medjedovic: Match Preview

Playing his first tournament since Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz made a winning start to his summer hard-court season two days ago, but it wasn’t easy—he won a streaky three-setter against Damir Dzumhur, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. He then hit the practice courts again afterwards. “I just wanted to hit some balls just to pull out all the negative feelings that I could have had from that match,” Alcaraz said.

Today, he’ll take on unseeded Hamad Medjedovic. The Serbian’s taken out recent Los Cabos finalist Aleksandar Kovacevic and No. 26 seed Tallon Griekspoor, both in straight sets, to reach the third round of a Masters 1000 event for the second time in his career, having also done it at Rome earlier this year.

Medjedovic has scored the four biggest wins of his career this year, against Holger Rune (No. 12), Karen Khachanov (No. 21), Daniil Medvedev (No. 8) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 11), and today he’ll go for the biggest win of his career against the No. 2-ranked Alcaraz.

This will be a first-time meeting between the two 22-year-olds.
