Carlos Alcaraz has his sights fully set on claiming a career Grand Slam – winning all four major tournaments – when he competes at the Australian Open in January. The Spaniard, 21, would become the youngest male player to complete the feat since his compatriot Rafael Nadal. Alcaraz has already won the US Open, Wimbledon (twice), and French Open titles in his career, and is ranked world No. 3.
Carlos Alcaraz has outlined a career Grand Slam is his primary focus for the upcoming season.
The Spaniard, who already has four major titles to his name, is missing the Australian Open from his collection.
Alcaraz previously won the US Open in 2022, before following that up with a spectacular Wimbledon victory over Novak Djokovic in 2023.
This year was his best to date in terms of Grand Slams, as he earned his first French Open title, before successfully defending the Wimbledon crown in a more routine victory over Djokovic back in July.
However, his first shot at the ‘Golden Slam’ was quashed by the Serbian at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where Djokovic beat the 21-year-old in straight sets to exact his revenge after his second successive Wimbledon defeat.
“I am a very ambitious person and I want to win the Australian Open to complete the career Grand Slam,” Alcaraz said.
“I want 2025 to be even more exciting. Let’s say I want more. Australia is what I want to tattoo, even if my father doesn’t like it very much. Being champion there is my main goal for next season.
“It was a year of ups and downs, but still positive. I still get emotional when I watch the videos of Roland-Garros and Wimbledon.
“I [will] start a hard month of training, but spending Christmas and New Year at home is wonderful and gives me a break. Sometimes it’s difficult to find happiness, but I want people to have fun with me.”
Alcaraz, the current world No. 3, had a difficult end to 2024, with his form tailing off significantly since Wimbledon.
