The 2021 world champion fell in straight games to top seed Shi Yuqi, bringing his campaign to an end. This is the deepest the Singaporean has made it in four attempts at the All England.
The 27-year-old fell 18-21, 16-21 in straight games on Friday (14 March) to world number one and top seed Shi Yuqi of the People’s Republic of China.
Loh, whose in three prior outings at the All England had never made it past the second round, fell behind early in the first and was always playing catch-up as Shi opened up a lead as wide as seven points, although Loh kept the margin respectable and saved three game points.
The second game was a closer affair, with the two in a tight tussle and locked at 13-13 at one point.
However, Shi won the last four points in a row to close out the victory in 46 minutes.
Shi next plays compatriot Li Shifeng in the semi-finals, while the winner of that match is guaranteed to face an unseeded opponent in the final on Sunday.
That’s compared to the women’s singles draw, where seven of the eight quarter-finalists are seeded and the other is the 2020 Olympic champion.
