Coach Mahela Jayawardene has guided the Mumbai Indians on to a clear climb after the home team was put into bat by Lucknow Super Giants.

Mumbai Indians had as a prerequisite to build a total in their own backyard that more often than not favours the team chasing.

The Mumbai Indians built their Innings around Ryan Rickleton who made a brilliant 54 in 32 deliveries at a strike rate of 180 plus after losing Rohit Sharma for 12 runs in the power play .

The South African opener built a partnership of 55 runs with Will Jack’s for the second wicket but lost his bearing with the total on 88 runs, giving Prince Yadav his only scalp in this match.

Will Jacks looked in great nick when he made 29 with Mumbai Indians making steady headway on 106, but the right-hander was bowled neck and crop by a back of a length delivery by Mayank Yadav. Suryakumar Yadav took on the bowling as expected using his repertoire of improvisation. He stuck around till the 18th over and made a brilliant 54 in 28 deliveries with 4 boundaries and 4 maximums with a strike rate of 192 plus despite the early dismissal of Thilak Varma for 8 and Hardick Pandya for 6.

At one stage, after the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav with Mumbai Indians on 180 for 6 wickets, a speculation was discussed in the com box whether Mumbai Indians could reach 200 runs on the good batting conditions on offer.

Mumbai Indians introduced Corbin Bosch in the playing eleven for the first time this season. He made 20 runs in 10 balls helping senior partner Narman Dir, who made 25 in 11 balls, and the boys from Maharashtra stitched 215 runs for 7 wickets in their quota of 20 overs.

Avish Khan 2 for 42 and Mayank Yadav 2 for 40 bowled with great discipline and intent.

216 at the Wankade is not herculean, except the Trent Bolt and Jasprit Bumrah challenge.

Luknow Super Giants fell like nine pins after the departure of Mitch Marsh for 34. Nicholas Poram failed again out for 27. Ayush Badoni at the back end made 35. The turning point of David Miller caught at square leg for 24 off a Bumrah full toss changed the tide as Bumrah struck thrice in the same over – Miller , Samad, and Avish Khan back in the hutch in the 16th over.

LSG bowled out for 161.

Bolt 3 for 22 , Bumrah 4 for 22 , Will Jack’s 2 for 18 and new kid on the blocks Corbin Bosch an excellent spell of 4 overs conceeding just 28 runs scalping 1 wicket.

End result Mumbai Indians won by a big margin of 54 runs, thereby recording their 6th win on the trott and moving from the bottom of the pit to 2nd place in the points table
