Aruna Darshana fifth in 400m. at Paris Olympics before disqualification

Sri Lanka’s 400m runner Aruna Darshana who came up with the best feat of all the Lankan competitors by going close to semi-final qualification, however, fell short of going the distance finishing fifth in the second semi-final with a time of 44.75s and was subsequently disqualified for a lane infringement.  

The Sri Lankan Olympic contingent included three athletes, two swimmers and one badminton player.  

Hangzhou Asian Games Gold Medalist Tharushi Karunarathna was placed eighth in the Women’s 800m first round with a time of 2:07.76s and clocked 2:06.66s to finish seventh in the repechage round.

Meanwhile, shuttler, Viren Nettasinghe lost out in the Men’s Singles while swimmers Kyle Abeysinghe and Ganga Senevirathne also lost in their respective Men’s 100m freestyle and Women’s 100m backstroke events.
