Andre Russell etched his name in the history books as he put a poor run of form behind him during Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) one-run victory in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Rajasthan Royals. Andre Russell etched his name in the history books after putting behind a nightmare season for him during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
After scoring just 72 runs in seven innings before today’s game, Russell was handed a promotion in the batting order and walked out to bat at number five with more than seven overs to spare. The star all-rounder made a cautious start by making just two runs in the first nine balls before producing a vintage performance to entertain the home crowd.
The 37-year-old finished with a total of 57 runs in just 25 balls, which included four boundaries and six sixes that helped KKR post a massive score of 206 on the board.
Andre Russell Creates History
Through the course of his knock, Russell completed 1000 runs at Eden Gardens in T20 cricket as well as the IPL. He is the third player, after Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa, to achieve the feat at the iconic venue. The West Indies star is the 18th player in IPL’s history to cross the milestone at a single venue.
Overall, a total of 168 players in T20 cricket have crossed the 1000-run mark at a single venue, and Russell now holds the world record to achieve the feat with the best strike-rate. He is the only player to complete the milestone with a strike-rate of 1000 runs in both T20 cricket and IPL, with a scoring rate above 170. He went past an IPL record held by Suryakumar Yadav.
