Taylor Fritz states his ‘main goal’ for the 2025 season ahead of the Australian Open

Taylor Fritz enjoyed the best year of his career in 2024 as he reached a career-high ranking of number four in the world.

Few players enjoyed more success than the American this year as he quickly established himself as one of the top players on the ATP Tour.

The 27-year-old won his seventh and eighth ATP titles as Fritz picked up trophies in Delray Beach and Eastbourne.

Fritz lost the US Open final to Jannik Sinner earlier this year, as he became the first American man to reach a Slam final since Andy Roddick in 2009.

He then suffered another heart-breaking defeat to the Italian at the year-end ATP Finals in Turin, where Fritz lost to Sinner in another big final.

A few tough defeats at the end of an excellent season for the 27-year-old who is now looking ahead to next year’s Australian Open.
Taylor Fritz says making ‘deep runs’ at the four Grand Slam events is his main goal for 2025

In a press conference ahead of the 2025 United Cup, Fritz revealed to fans how his off-season preparations have gone.

“I think as I’ve gotten a bit older. It’s not so much about, like, absolutely killing myself as much as I can in the off-season,” he said.

“It’s about training but still feeling recharged and ready to go and very motivated to come back out and be ready to play in Australia.

“I feel like it’s kind of about finding the balance between working as much as I can but still not almost burning myself out just so I’m feeling good coming here.

“I’m excited to start the year, I thought I was playing really solid tennis in the off-season, I got good work in.”

Fritz went on to preview his 2025 season and outlined his main goals for the new year.

“I’m not sure, it’s changing every year I guess, like the expectations,” he said.

“I’d like to start out with a solid week in here [at the United Cup], get some good matches.

“Obviously the main focus is going to be Australian Open.

“Hopefully a deep run at the Slams.

“That’s like my main goal all year long is the big results at the Slams.”
Can Taylor Fritz win the United Cup with Team USA?

Fritz may have his sights set on Australian Open glory, but before that he has the United Cup to contend with.

Team USA won the inaugural edition of the United Cup in 2023, as Fritz took down Matteo Berrettini and the rest of the Italian team to take home the title.

Things didn’t quite go to plan this year, however, as the Americans failed to advance from the group stage after a narrow defeat to Australia.

It was Fritz’s loss to now fellow top-ten star Alex de Minaur that set the tone for a tough defeat in Perth last year, and he’ll no doubt be hoping to get back on track this time around.

He’ll have an all-star teammate by his side, as Fritz and Coco Gauff could well be playing mixed doubles at the event.

Ranked fourth and third in the ATP and WTA rankings respectively, the Americans have the strongest singles line-up of any nation competing at the event and are strong favorites for the title.

They’ll face a tough test from Canada and Croatia, whom they share Group A with, but will be expected to make their way into the quarter-finals.

Fritz will begin his United Cup campaign against Felix Auger-Aliassime, as the United States takes on Canada on Sunday.
