Jake Paul has taken to social media for the first time since reports emerged that he may be fighting Conor McGregor next month.
The social media sensation turned boxing star is coming off the back of a monstrous event on Netflix with Mike Tyson, and it had been unclear where his future in the ring would lie. Last week, McGregor claimed that he had made a preliminary agreement to fight Jake’s brother Logan Paul.
However, Ariel Helwani reported that Jake was the first choice, but only wanted to even entertain negotiations if the UFC and Dana White were directly involved. And now, it appears that sources are telling ESPN that a potential clash with the Irishman could be on for next year.
Reports emerge that Jake Paul could fight Conor McGregor, not his brother Logan
The initial talk of McGregor vs Paul was supposed to be Conor McGregor taking on Logan Paul, which he announced last week. The former two-weight world champion claimed to have made preliminary agreements for a bout in India, to be funded by the super-rich Ambani family.
“The rumors of a bout with topurio [UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria] are false,” he wrote. “I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon.”
However, yesterday ESPN KnockOut’s Salvador Rodriguez tweeted seemingly indicating a change in proceedings, writing: “Jake Paul vs Conor McGregor on the table for July, August or September 2025 in India…”
This would be in line with Ariel Helwani’s reporting on the situation, who has noted that it was initially Jake that the family wanted. He is the more established boxer and also physically much smaller than Logan, making it a more natural fight.
Jake has been boxing consistently as a professional for the past four years, while Logan is much more sporadic and less successful. He won at the fourth time of asking last year against McGregor’s close friend Dillon Danis, but has since been focused on WWE.
Meanwhile, Jake has amassed a strong professional record that includes scalps over UFC champions like Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley. He even dropped McGregor’s arguably greatest rival Nate Diaz in August of last year on route to a comfortable win in the ring.
