Sri Lanka have drafted in right-arm seamer Chethana Vimukthi as a replacement for Shashini Gimhani in their squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Gimhani, the ambidextrous 17-year-old wristspinner, was forced to withdraw from the tournament after sustaining a lower-back injury during training.
Vimukthi, the replacement player, is yet to earn a T20I cap but gained some valuable international experience playing three ODIs against New Zealand in March last year.
Sri Lanka, captained by Chamari Athapaththu, left for England on June 2 and will open their campaign against the hosts at Edgbaston on June 12. Drawn in Group 2, they will also face New Zealand, West Indies, Ireland and Scotland as they look for an improved showing after a winless 2024 tournament.
Updated SL squad: Chamari Athapaththu (C), Hasini Perera, Vishmi Gunarathne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Imesha Dulani, Nilakshika Silva, Kaveesha Dilhari, Hansima Karunarathne, Kaushini Nuthyangana, Sugandika Dassanayaka, Nimasha Madushani, Kawya Kavindi, Malki Madara, Mithali Ayodhya, Chethana Vimukthi
