Opener Gayan Maneeshan struck a brilliant 160 off 162 balls as Kurunegala YCC posted 331 for 5 against Tamil Union at NCC Grounds yesterday.
Kurunegala YCC had a shaky start after being invited to bat, losing Dilhara Polgampala for a duck in the first over to paceman Lahiru Samarakoon. Maneeshan anchored the innings with his stylish left-handed strokeplay, hitting 15 fours and 5 sixes to register his 13th first-class century.
He shared a crucial 73-run partnership for the fifth wicket with skipper Sameera Sadamal, who remained unbeaten on 72 from 102 balls with 11 fours. At stumps, Sadamal and Chamod Sandaru (25*) added 66 unbeaten runs for the sixth wicket.
Tamil Union used seven bowlers, with Kavindu Dilhara and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth taking 2 wickets each.
Meanwhile, Colts Cricket Club (CCC) were 62 for 4 in reply to Chilaw Marians CC’s first innings total of 185 at Colts Grounds. Experienced paceman Asitha Fernando led the CCC bowling attack with 4 for 31, supported by skipper Sonal Dinusha and Nishan Peiris, who claimed 2 wickets each. CCC’s innings was further hampered early by Thikshila de Silva (3/30), leaving the team trailing by 123 runs at close. Skipper Sonal Dinusha (14) and night watchman Vishwa Fernando (2) were at the crease at stumps. National players Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis were absent due to national training in Dambulla, depriving CCC of key batting strength as they looked to recover in the second innings.
At P. Sara Oval, BRC scored 233 all out with Raminda Wijesooriya top-scoring 80. Ace Capital CC were struggling at 23 for 3 wickets at stumps.
