Jannik Sinner opened up about the significance of his maiden US Open triumph during the trophy presentation, acknowledging the difficult period he underwent amid his doping controversy after receiving a “no fault” verdict following two positive tests for Clostebol at the Indian Wells Masters.
In an emotional gesture, the World No. 1 dedicated the title to his ailing aunt, admitting his uncertainty about how much time he has left with her.
“This title for me means so much; the last period of my career was not easy. There is my team who supports me every day, the people who are close to me. I love tennis, I practise a lot for these kind of stages, but off the court there is a life,” Jannik Sinner said.
“I would like to dedicate this title to my aunt who is really not feeling well health wise. I don’t know how much I’ll still have her in my life. It’s so nice I can still share a positive moment with her,” he added.
Taylor Fritz, meanwhile, was devastated after his loss in the final, apologizing to the home crowd for failing to snap the 21-year drought for an American Major champion.
