Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz were face to face for the first time since last month’s Wimbledon final at the Cincinnati Open on Monday, tournament social media capturing their jovial interaction on the practice court:
Alcaraz, who saw his quest for a third straight Wimbledon title end in four tough sets to Sinner, was wrapping up a hit with former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev when Sinner emerged for his own pre-tournament practice.
Sinner is looking to defend his Cincinnati Open title, having won the 2024 final in three sets against Alexander Zverev; the four-time Grand Slam champion rode that momentum to victory at the US Open last summer.
Meanwhile, Alcaraz is in search of his first hard-court Grand Slam title since the 2022 US Open; the Spaniard has gone on to win back-to-back titles at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Sinner and Alcaraz have split the first three major titles of 2025—and faced off in the last two major finals—with all eyes on who will come out on top in Flushing Meadows later this month.
Both men are playing their first tournament since Wimbledon, Sinner and Alcaraz having both pulled out of the National Bank Open in Toronto. The two were heard catching up on their post-Wimbledon summers, with Alcaraz joking, “Nothing crazy!” about his last few weeks.
