Rory McIlroy, 36, set to start new career amid golf break ahead of The Open

Rory McIlroy is set to make his acting debut in Happy Gilmore 2, with the Netflix film primed to release on July 25.

The golf star, who recently finished sixth at the Travelers Championship, will be taking a break from the sport as The Open approaches.

McIlroy is next scheduled to appear at the Scottish Open, with that tournament running from July 10 to July 13.

He will then attempt to win the fourth and final major of the year at Royal Portrush, with McIlroy hoping to win The Open for the second time in his career.

As the prestigious tournament creeps closer, fans can expect to see McIlroy make his acting debut.

Speaking back in May, the Northern Irishman confirmed he would be making a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2 – which will release on Netflix on July 25.

He said: “Happy Gilmore was the golf movie for me growing up.

“I can recite pretty much every line. So the fact that I got the opportunity to do that [make a cameo] was awesome.”

McIlroy also lavished praise on Adam Sandler, who is the main star of the upcoming film.

“Sandler is, like, the best,” he added. “He’s the absolute best.”

McIlroy isn’t the only sports star set to appear in the upcoming picture, with Kansas City Chiefs ace Travis Kelce also due to make an appearance.
