Sunil Narine Creates History, Breaks All-Time Record; Becomes First Player In The World To…

Sunil Narine etched his name in record books after he dismissed Kamindu Mendis of SRH in an IPL 2025 match at the Eden Gardens. Sunil Narine, who has been a key member of the KKR squad for more than a decade now, achieved a spectacular feat for the franchise.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is the third most successful team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with three titles, with IPL 2024 being the latest when the team grabbed the silverware. The captains have changed since the maiden title in 2012, and the squads saw many players coming in and going out in these years, but one thing that remained constant with KKR is Sunil Narine. The ace spinner took 24 wickets in IPL 2012, KKR’s maiden title win, and 21 in the second title win in 2014. When KKR won the third title last year, Narine was still going strong and picked 17 wickets. He was instrumental in the KKR juggernaut, scoring 488 runs as well at a strike rate of 180.

Meanwhile, Sunil Narine created history after he dismissed Kamindu Mendis of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025 match at the Eden Gardens. The wicket took Narine’s tally of wickets in IPL to 182, all of which have come for KKR. Narine also picked 18 wickets for the franchise in the Champions League T20, taking his wickets tally for KKR to 200. The ace spinner became the first player in the world to take 200 wickets for an IPL team across all competitions.

The record for most wickets for a team in Men’s T20 is held by Samit Patel, who took 208 wickets for Nottinghamshire. Sunil follows Samit at the second position with 200 wickets.

Meanwhile, the economical spell by Narine and three wickets each by Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy helped KKR beat SRH by 80 runs. Chasing a target of 201, SRH were bowled out for 120 as KKR registered their second win of IPL 2025.
