Rohit Sharma is a master of pull shot and nobody plays the shot better than him. However, against New Zealand, the same shot led to his demise as the India skipper’s reckless shot led to his dismissal in the Champions Trophy clash. New Zealand set the perfect field and Rohit fell in the trap.
How Jamieson trapped Rohit
India were put into bat as the Kiwi skipper, Mitch Santner wanted to utilise the conditions. Rohit Sharma came out with a positive frame of mind as he played some attacking shots and looked in good nick. He also stepped down the track to take on the attack, but eventually he fell into the Kiwi trap.
There was a fielder placed at short mid-wicket as Kyle Jamieson dugged it short and he knew that Rohit Sharma will go with the pull shot. The India skiper misplaced the shot and found the fielder as Will Young took a simple catch. Jamieson was pumped up and rightly so as he had taken a key wicket in the context of the match.
India also lose Virat Kohli to a stunner!
Not only Rohit Sharma, but India also lost the prized wicket of Shubman Gill. The number 3 batter, Virat Kohli played some aggressive shots, but then came Glenn Phillips who took the catch of the tournament to end Kohli’s innings at 11.
The Indian batter played a powerful cut shot, but Phillips leaped and plucked a stunner which shattered Kohli’s 300th ODI game.
At the moment, Shreyas Iyer is batting alongside Axar Patel as India look to steady the ship after 3 early wickets.
