President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced his government’s intention to minimize cash usage across the country, highlighting digitization as a key component of this transformation.
The President made these remarks during the launch of the government’s new digital initiatives, including the GovPay digital payment platform.
“We expect to minimize the use of cash in our country. To achieve this, digitization will play a vital role,” President Dissanayake stated, emphasizing the importance of technological advancements in modernizing financial systems.
He described these digital tools as crucial for ensuring equal access to services for all citizens, regardless of location.
The President pointed out the current challenges faced by rural communities, using the example of accessing the President’s Fund.
“For someone from Narahenpita, reaching the Presidential Secretariat is easy, while a person from Giradurukotte faces difficulties. I believe this is a great approach to bridge the gap,” he said.
The President reaffirmed his party’s commitment to equality, emphasizing the need to reduce disparities between urban and rural areas.
He added that the digitalization push aligns with his political vision of creating equal opportunities for all Sri Lankans.
