Sri Lanka will be hosting the Australian cricket team in the first Test match of their two-match series at the Galle International Stadium from Wednesday, January 29 onwards. Forming a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle, the series also constitutes the 2025 edition of the prestigious Warne-Muralitharan Trophy.
After winning a dead-rubber over England at The Oval back in September, Sri Lanka defeated a visiting New Zealand side 2-0 in a home Test series. However, Sri Lanka’s newfound winning momentum got abrupted by crashing to two huge demoralizing defeats to South Africa away from home.
The Australian cricket team, on the other hand, recently qualified for the WTC 2025 final by defeating Team India at home. Moreover, the Australian unit is currently ranked second on the ICC WTC 2023-25 standings for winning 11 of their 17 fixtures in the Championship cycle.
